Massacre was formed in 1984 in Florida and is regarded as one of the most influential death metal bands. The original lineup included bassist Mike Borders, drummer Bill Andrews, guitarist Allen West, and vocalist Kam Lee. After several lineup changes and collaborations with legendary bands like Death and Obituary, Massacre released their debut album From Beyond in 1991. Formed in 1984, the band quickly began to shape the scene. Their debut album, From Beyond, solidified their reputation as one of the most influential bands in the genre.
The history and reformation of Massacre
Massacre, the influential death metal band, experienced several significant events over the years. After a lengthy hiatus, they reunited in 2011 for an anniversary tour, successfully bringing together their dedicated fan base.
In early 2012, the reformed lineup, featuring Terry Butler and Rick Rozz, along with Mike Mazzonetto on drums and Ed Webb on vocals, performed on the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise. They signed an international recording deal with Century Media Records in March 2012, planning a 7″ release in time for their appearance at the Wacken Festival that same year.
However, in 2014, the band disbanded following the departure of both Terry Butler and Ed Webb. A couple of years later, in December 2016, Massacre reformed under the name Massacre X, but legal issues with original drummer Bill Andrews led them to rebrand as Gods of Death, reflecting their significant impact on the death metal genre.
In 2019, Massacre made a triumphant return to their original name, much to the delight of fans. Unfortunately, in September of that year, Rick Rozz and Mike Mazzonetto left the band, prompting a new lineup to be announced three months later, which included plans for an album in 2020. However, two new members departed shortly after.
On August 6, 2021, Massacre announced their fourth album, Resurgence, set for release on October 22. Most recently, on September 5, 2024, they revealed their fifth album, Necrolution, scheduled for release on November 8. These developments showcase that Massacre continues to play a central role in the death metal scene, offering exciting new projects to their audience.
